The lyrics for this song are inspired by EO Wilson's essay of the same name about the "beauty, elegance, and strangeness of insect communities." Wrote this on an acoustic in dropped C and then played it a step up on my electric when I recorded it. Was real happy with this one immediately- one of the quickest songs I have ever written.

Queen descends to the ground/breaks her wings and tunnels down/she wanders in patterns and petals divine/while the boys wander aimless around til they drop/drop in death while the queen runs machines of the whole colony til only the lifeblood is left
im a simple guy/ i gotta confide/my visions are filled with the vaguest desire to have a few kicks before i die/with all that's left/ I'm shaken by the blackened earth that the bony white hand has torched to make way for some rides
The boys ferry out for some fries/she tease em with a simple disguise/ tends her garden of frost and its ancestral moss while the fig tree stands bare to the sky/sight and sound/ smell and taste/ the queen runs machines of the whole colony with not one leaf left for waste
